Sagadawa

Sagadawa or Saka Dawa

A full month in May — honoring Shakyamuni Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death. One’s deeds are considered multiplied during this time, so Tibetans often give alms to beggars and refrain from eating meat. (I learned to cook meatless dishes!) There seemed to be four times as many people prostrating around the BaKor, many with very modern clothes (not pilgrims from the countryside).
