Picnics in Tibet

June, 2015  Picnic Time!
Tibetans love to go on picnics, and my class quickly planned a year-end party, complete with food, blankets, cards, and 10 cases of beer.... They liked my beach ball and played a game where the one who missed was thrown in the air. I was glad to watch! Waiting for the bus, a woman came along with a little lamb....only in Tibet!

Saying goodbye to students July, 2015

July, 2015 Saying Goodbye to wonderful students

We would not be returning to Lhasa Teachers College, so saying goodbye was bitter-sweet. As you can see, many kadahs (white scarves) were unfurled and presented. The Tibetans are very shy, but do know how to honour their teachers. Some have already visited me at TASS, and hopefully more will come in the spring. Then my fellow teachers also celebrated with an interesting bbq (chain-saw chicken, bones and all) cooked in a huge pot over a wood fire. They are dear colleagues.

Cookies were baked and delivered to secretary, photocopy clerk, mail clerk,  cafeteria cook, heads of the department.

Good byes were hugged to the foster kids. Zhen Zhen was wearing an "I love Canada" t-shirt!

Then, I moved my apartment, packed my bags, and off to Canada for the summer -wonderful times!

I'm finally back on top of the world! (well, actually, I'm out of Tibet at the moment, using faster internet to catch up on bloging. Today I'll try to post for September-November, 2015)

August 19, 2015 Blue to Smog to Blue skies... traveling from Beautiful B.C. (I ski in those hills!), to smoggy Beijing, to clear (-ish; still some summer monsoon clouds) skies of Lhasa. It was hard leaving wonderful friends and family in B.C. but I was happy to return to Tibet, with a 2 day layover in Beijing for meetings.

"Home" at last!
